Texting UK customers, with consent on file.

In the UK, marketing texts are governed by PECR and UK GDPR. You need the right permission, a clear sender identity and a simple way out in every message. Textezy builds all three into every campaign.

What the rules require

Permission, identity and an easy opt-out.

There's no carrier registry like India or the US. Instead, the ICO expects you to prove people agreed to hear from you, and to make stopping easy.

  • Consent: a clear, active opt-in for marketing texts, or the soft opt-in for existing customers
  • Identity: customers must be able to tell who the message is from
  • Opt-out: a free, simple way to stop marketing in every message

Two routes to permission

Opt-in or soft opt-in. Textezy tracks both.

  • Opt-in

    Someone actively says yes

They tick an unticked box, text a keyword or sign up on a form that clearly says you'll send marketing texts. Textezy stores the wording they saw, the source and the time.

  • Soft opt-in

    Existing customers, similar products

If you got their number during a sale, you can text them about similar products, as long as they could refuse at the time and can refuse in every message. Textezy tags these contacts so they only get eligible campaigns.

How Textezy handles it

Compliance that runs in the background.

  1. Sender name

We set up an alphanumeric sender such as “BrightSmile” so customers recognise you instantly.

  2. Consent capture

Forms, keywords and QR codes with the right wording, saving every opt-in to your consent ledger.

  3. Message checks

Marketing texts are blocked if they're missing an opt-out or going to contacts without permission.

  4. Records on demand

Export who agreed, how and when, if a customer or the ICO ever asks.

Message example

Clear sender, clear exit.

A compliant UK marketing text says who it's from and how to stop, without eating into your message.

Compliant marketing textBrightSmile: Teeth whitening is 20% off for existing patients this month. Book: tz.link/bs20. Reply STOP to opt out.

UK FAQ

Questions about sending in the UK.

Can customers reply to a branded sender name?

No. Alphanumeric senders are one-way. If you want replies, Textezy can send from a UK mobile number instead, and you can mix both in one account.

Do the rules apply to business customers?

PECR's consent rules for texts mainly protect individuals, including sole traders and some partnerships. Texts to company employees have lighter rules, but you must still identify yourself and honour opt-outs. Textezy treats every contact carefully by default.

Can someone stop my brand name being spoofed?

Yes. The UK has an industry registry that protects sender names from misuse. We can help you register yours.

What about service messages?

Order updates, appointment reminders and other service texts aren't marketing, so they don't need marketing consent. Keep them free of promotions, and Textezy will flag any that drift into marketing.
